The Luna-Otero FamiliesThe Luna and Otero Families, so relevant in New Mexico’s history date back to 1530, when some of the most influential, well known heroic Spanish and American explorers came to New Mexico.

Torres Family

For over 60 years, the Torres family restaurants have been a staple in New Mexico. It started in 1949 when the late Pete and Eligia Torres opened Pete’s Cafe in Belen. Initially catering to railroaders, this little cafe started small but established great roots in Valencia County. As a family-run business with a fundamental belief in good food and hard work, it set the tone for future Torres restaurants.

Architecture & Preservation

The Mansion was built as a gift from the Santa Fe Railway in exchange for the right-of-way through the Luna-Otero extensive land grant holdings. It is the only known Victorial, Southern Colonial structure constructed of adobe and terron components.
The Torres family has connections as far back to the earliest known Spanish settlement of the Rio Abajo Valley. (news bulletin article) Preservation provides New Mexicans an opportunity to honor legacies from the past and to envision its future.
